The mission of Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) is to provide assistance to families with children and individuals toward self reliance |
Summer Fun for Children's Services For years it has been the dream of SAEHC’s Executive Director, Carolyn Brodt, to bring a summer camp-style program to the Children’s Services Program throughout the agency, in order to combat the lack of structure during the summer months. Through working with three community partners in particular, we were able to assemble a program that is beneficial to the children; exposing them to a variety of activities we hope will engage them and inspire them to further pursue their dreams. The $7,500 grant from the Yocha-De-He Community Fund will make this dream a reality. Approximately 35 children will participate in educational and recreational activities throughout the Sacramento region, thereby exposing participants to a variety of activities that will engage their minds and bodies in a healthy, educational, and structured program. Also, SAEHC was selected to be part of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission Community Arts Program. This 3-way collaborative process between artists, SMAC, and SAEHC will bring three hours of performance and visual arts programming to the Family Shelter children and families beginning in August. The children will be exposed to a new way of life and expression as many of these children have never been to a museum or a performance, let alone participate in an art education program. Furthermore, the children will experience a potential method of expression and release from a dysfunctional history, as well as providing education around different professional paths one could take. Finally, the children at our Mather Community Campus (MCC) program are being given the opportunity to participate in a therapeutic horseback riding program with the Grace Foundation. Over two, week-long sessions, 12 MCC children will be taught the care of horses and basic riding instruction. Thank you to our clinical partner, Child & Family Institute for coordinating this incredible opportunity, Dover Saddlery for your generous donation of riding boots for participants, and to the Grace Foundation for the incredible services you provide to the community and the equine world!
