About Us
Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) continues to be a profound force in moving homeless
families and individuals to higher levels of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Started as a Family
Shelter program in 1972 meeting the basic needs of seven homeless families, the agency now serves an
average of 1,650 program participants each year in 11 programs.
Just as the agency has grown, so too has the scope of its goals and services. Initially, the provision
of shelter alone helped people out of homelessness and therefore constituted the agency's mission.
However, goals have now changed to meet the changing needs of program participants. In its shelters,
transitional housing, and community services programs, agency goals include the provision of individualized
case plans, self-sufficiency workshops and groups such as living skills, parenting, budgeting, housing,
health and mental health care, housing relocation assistance, and community support services.
SAEHC has not only developed a rich history and incorporated other service goals into its overall mission;
it has managed its programs in such a way that they make visible and measurable change in people's lives.
