SAEHC’s Family Shelter has been serving homeless families with children for over 38 years. We are in the process of updating and expanding this vital facility. The agency plans to completely rebuild the shelter in four phases. Each phase is designed so that no families will be displaced during the process. The completed shelter would serve 19 families at a time, almost a 50% increase!

Families in the shelter are provided with more than a place to sleep, for 60 days they are given three meals a day, all toiletries, diapers, and other essential items. Case Managers and Housing Specialists help the families access services and provide them with job and landlord referrals. In addition, classes are offered on budgeting, finances, anger management, parenting, relapse prevention, and self-esteem. On-site educational and recreational programs are provided for the children including tutoring, a computer lab, arts and crafts, and an on-site Head Start pre-school.

In order to begin this project, SAEHC must raise $75,000 in “seed money.” With your investment in this project, we will be able to help more of the 130 families that are turned away each month due to lack of space.
